About this guide and how we check it
Son La Tourism is an independent, English-language guide to Son La province for international travellers. This page explains who writes it, where the facts come from, what the dates mean, what we do not do, how advertising is kept apart from the text, and how to correct us.
Who writes it
The pages are written and checked by the Son La Tourism editors, who are named as the author on every page. The guide is written for people who read English and are planning a trip themselves: how long to stay, which months suit which place, how long the roads take, what things cost, and when to stay away.
It covers the province at the level of places and seasons: the Moc Chau plateau, Ta Xua, Quynh Nhai lake, Son La town, and the planning questions that apply to all of them. It does not cover every commune, and it is published in English only.
How facts are checked
We use sources in this order of preference:
- Government and state sources: the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, government portals, legal texts such as the 2025 resolution on Son La’s communes and wards, and provincial bodies.
- Foreign ministry travel advice, in particular the UK Foreign Office, which states its own update dates.
- National and provincial newspapers and broadcasters, such as VnExpress, VOV, Nhan Dan and provincial papers.
- Travel guides, airline guides and travel blogs, labelled as such in the source line, used only where nothing official answers the question.
Facts that can change, such as fares, ticket prices, opening hours, journey times and road projects, carry a source line underneath with a last checked date: the day an editor read the source and compared it with the page. Where sources disagree, the page shows both. Where we could not confirm something, such as a boat price on Quynh Nhai lake, the page says so rather than guessing.
Many sources are dated. A fare reported in 2019 is labelled with its year, so that you can judge it. Prices are given as ranges to help you budget; check them before you travel.
What we do not do
- We do not sell tours, tickets, rooms or transport, and we take no bookings.
- We do not publish rankings or lists of favourite businesses, and we do not rate companies, hotels or guides.
- We do not accept payment for mentions inside the text. Places are mentioned because readers need them, not because anyone asked.
- We do not publish reviews or quotations from travellers that we cannot verify.
- We do not give legal, visa or medical advice beyond pointing to the official sources.
Advertising policy
The site may carry advertising to pay for its upkeep. Ad spaces are labelled Advertisement, sit in fixed positions on the page, and are kept visually separate from the editorial text. Advertisers have no say over what the pages say, which places they mention or how they describe them, and editorial pages are not changed to suit an advertiser.
Links in advertisements are marked as sponsored. If an advertisement appears next to a page about the same place, that is a placement, not an endorsement. If you think an advertisement is misleading or too close to the text, tell us through the contact page. Advertising enquiries go to the same address, and are handled separately from editorial work.
What we do badly
- Real-time conditions. A road closed by a landslide this morning will not show here.
- Precise prices. We give reported ranges with dates, not quotes.
- Small places. Communes beyond the four main areas have little coverage so far.
- Languages other than English.
Corrections
If a page is wrong, out of date or unclear, tell us through the form on the contact page or by email to info@sonlatourism.com. The most useful reports say which page and which sentence, what you found instead, when, and how you know: a link to an official source, or what happened on the road and on which date.
Every report is read by an editor. Where a correction is confirmed, we change the page, update the "last checked" date of the section concerned, and note significant changes in the log below. Where we cannot confirm a report but it is credible, we may add it as a traveller report, labelled as such.

Common questions
Questions readers ask
Who writes Son La Tourism?
The Son La Tourism editors, who are named as the author on every page.
Do you accept payment to mention a business?
No. There are no paid mentions inside the text. Advertising, where it appears, is labelled and kept separate.
Why do some pages cite travel blogs?
Because on some points, such as museum hours or bus fares, official sources say nothing. We label those sources so that you can weigh them.
How do I report a mistake?
Use the form on the contact page or email the editors. Say which page, what is wrong and how you know.
